A wonderfully quirky Mad Hatter-themed wedding at Newstead Abbey, Nottinghamshire
Georgina & Justin’s Newstead Abbey wedding was certainly one to remember. Set against the beautiful historic surroundings of Newstead Abbey, their day combined a traditional wedding celebration with a wonderfully playful Mad Hatter theme that reflected their personalities perfectly.
From quirky details and colourful decorations to plenty of laughter and genuine moments throughout the day, this was a wedding that never took itself too seriously — and was an absolute joy to photograph.
A Wedding Full of Personality
One of the things I love most about weddings is seeing couples create a day that genuinely feels like their own, and Georgina & Justin certainly did that.
Their Mad Hatter-inspired theme brought an extra sense of fun and personality to the celebration, with carefully chosen details appearing throughout the day. It gave me plenty to photograph beyond the traditional wedding moments and helped create a gallery that feels completely unique to them.
The best wedding photographs aren't simply about beautiful locations — they're about capturing the people, details and little touches that make one wedding completely different from another.
Getting Ready
The day began with the usual mixture of anticipation, excitement and a few nerves as everyone got ready for the celebrations ahead.
I like to photograph preparations naturally, capturing the smaller moments happening around the room alongside details such as Flowers, jewellery and those final finishing touches. It's often during this quieter part of the day that some of the most personal photographs are created. This particular wedding they had their hair and makeup already done before they wanted me to arrive.Â
Arriving at Newstead abbey
Newstead Abbey provides an incredible backdrop for a wedding. Its historic architecture, beautiful grounds and distinctive character created a dramatic contrast with Georgina & Justin’s playful theme.
That combination worked brilliantly photographically — the grandeur of the venue alongside all the colourful, quirky touches of their wedding created something that felt elegant without ever becoming too formal.
The Ceremony
With everyone gathered together, it was time for the ceremony and the moment Georgina & Justin had been waiting for.
During a ceremony I try to work as quietly and unobtrusively as possible, concentrating on the moments that matter — the expressions as the couple see one another, reactions from family and friends, the vows, rings and all the little looks and laughs that happen in between.
Georgina & Justin's ceremony had exactly the warmth and personality that carried through the rest of their day.
Down the Rabbit Hole — Just Married
Ceremony complete, it was time to relax, celebrate and embrace the wonderfully mad world Georgina & Justin had created for their wedding.
These are some of my favourite moments to photograph — congratulations, hugs, laughter and conversations happening everywhere while the newly married couple finally gets a chance to enjoy everything around them.

We're All Mad Here — The Evening Party
As the evening arrived, there was really only one thing left to do — celebrate.
After the first dance the party got underway, giving me a completely different set of moments to capture. The formalities were finished, everyone could properly relax and the dancefloor filled with exactly the sort of expressions, movement and chaos that make evening wedding photographs so much fun.
It was a fitting ending to a wedding day that had been full of colour, personality and plenty of wonderfully mad moments.
